PERSONALITY OF THE MONTH

Captain Fatai Atanda (rtd)
It is with great pleasure that we present our Hockey Personality for the Month of July to you, in person of Captain Fatai Atanda. He is a retired Army Officer. He is a hockey enthusiast. He is one of the very few who was privileged to be a National player, Captain of the National team and also Coached the National team.
He started playing hockey at age eleven (11) years from the Nigerian Military School Zaria in Kaduna State. He featured for the Nigerian Army and Armed Forces Team at the World Council du International Sports Military Games in Germany (CISM). He also featured in the National team taking part in:
- All Africa Games
- Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt & Kenya
- FIH Intercontinental hockey tournament in Rome 1998
His coaching achievements were as follows:
- Lagos State Schools Champions with Kings College
- Silver Medal with Yobe Desert Rollers – ACCC in Accra – 1999
- Bronze medal at 4 Nations’ tournament in Catania, Italy 2002
- Silver Medal with Nigerian Women’s Team at the All African Games 2003 Abuja as Team Manager
- Coach of Nigeria Men to 2003 Ist Afro Asian Games Hockey Squad – Hydrabad India
As an Administrator, his technical prowess earned him:
- Over four (4) terms as member and co opted member of the Nigeria Hockey Federation.
- Former Member Africa Hockey Federation Development Committee
- Former Member Federation of International Hockey Development Council
